Opposition Parties call a demonstration Sunday in the capital

Semayawi Party (the Blue Party) and Medrek coalition (Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum) have jointly called a demonstration in Addis Ababa on Sunday December 27, 2015.


Medrek and Semayawi Party decided to call for the demonstration together, as per the agreement to work together on common concerns and interests, vice chairman of Semayawi Party Ato Negese Tefaredegn told the media.

According to Ato Negese Tefaredegn, the demonstration was called to denounce the killing of protesters in the Oromia region and also condemn the decision by the Ethiopian government to give Ethiopia’s land to the Sudan. It is reported that a high level Sudanese government delegation is in Addis Ababa to finalize the demarcation process.

In addition, the demonstration would also deplore the government’s handling of human and democratic rights in the country.

The location of the demonstration was also made public. It would start at at 9:00 AM from Ras Mekonnen Bridge, Piazza and heads towards Churchill Square.

Ato Negese Tefarede told Negere Ethiopia that the government’s misguided policy has placed Ethiopia in a difficult situation. Ato Negese called all Ethiopians to participate at the demonstration.

Analysts however predict the regime is likely to block the demonstration on the pretense of lack of security personnel and that the issue of Integrated Master Plan is already “solved”.

Meanwhile regime’s cadres and operatives are going door to door warning households all over Ethiopia not to watch radio and television programs aired by Ethiopian Satellite Television and Radio Service (ESAT). In some places, the security officers removed satellite dishes from the roof of households. It is yet to be seen if the regime would remove all satellite dishes on hundreds of thousands of roofs across the country.

The regime has jammed one of ESAT’s satellite since Saturday, December 19, 2015.
