(ON) Ethiopia's ONLF rebels encircle town of Geri

Friday, 01 October 2010 03:17 Ogaden Online
Ogaden Online  confirms the encirclement of the town of Geri Go'an by Ogaden National Liberation Army (ONLA) units. Reports from a number of eyewitnesses on the ground and interviews with some of the ONLA officers leading the assault on the town indicate major losses incurred by the Woyane militias who were deployed in and around the town.

The latest battle that took place in and around the town was precipitated by Woyane deployments in the area in the mistaken belief that they could allow the so-called individuals from the Diaspora communities to hold a propaganda gathering in a town that has a historical meaning to the ONLF. It is reported that the head of what is locally known as 'Dabaqoodhiyiinta Doolka ah' Salaaxdiin Macow and his three man entourage reached Qabri Dahar yesterday by plane. He is said to have slept the night in a Woyane militia outpost inside the city.

This latest battle in Geri Go'an follows many battles that the ONLA have waged lately in many parts of Ogaden. It has been confirmed that the major highway that connects Jig Jiga to Harar, a major Woyane militia supply city, has been successfully blocked by the ONLA.
